Dimitar Pantev set for Marumo Gallants coaching job

Bulgarian coach Dimitar Pantev is understood to be in South Africa as Marumo Gallants prepare to make a change in the dugout, with Phuti Mohafe facing the prospect of being replaced following the club’s disappointing start to the Betway Premiership season.

The North West-based side are yet to register a victory after five matches and are believed to be considering Pantev as the man to turn around their fortunes.

Mohafe was appointed during the off-season with the expectation that his experience and knowledge of the domestic game would help Gallants make significant progress in the Premiership.

However, the former Polokwane City coach has endured a difficult start to life at the club, with Gallants struggling to produce the desired results and elevate their performances.

The club’s failure to secure a win in their opening five league matches has reportedly forced the Gallants hierarchy to consider a change, with Pantev emerging as the leading candidate to take over.

The Bulgarian tactician is now understood to be in the country as discussions over his possible appointment continue, although an official announcement from the club is yet to be made.

Gallants will have an opportunity to change their fortunes this weekend when they face AmaZulu in their next Betway Premiership fixture.

The struggling side will be desperate to secure their maiden league victory of the campaign, but the match could also prove significant for Mohafe as uncertainty continues to surround his future at the club.
