Bryan Mbeumo names Joshua Zirkzee as Manchester United’s most underrated player
Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo has singled out teammate Joshua Zirkzee as the most underrated player in the Manchester United squad, praising the forward’s physical presence, technical ability, and link-up play.
Mbeumo, who joined Manchester United from Brentford in a £71 million move last summer, has enjoyed a solid debut season at Old Trafford.
He has made 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals ahead of the final Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Mbeumo was asked to identify the most underrated player he has worked with in training, and he did not hesitate in naming Zirkzee.
“Josh Zirkzee. Why? Because of how they can link with players,” Mbeumo said.
“He is such a strong guy. It was really hard to take him off the ball when covering it. And obviously good finishing, like power shots.”
Mbeumo also highlighted the Dutch striker’s technical quality and personality within the squad, describing him as both effective and easy to play alongside.
“He’s really good with his feet, so I was very impressed. He’s a nice guy as well, funny guy.”
Zirkzee, who joined Manchester United as part of the club’s attacking rebuild, has gradually settled into the squad and earned praise for his versatility, often contributing in build-up play as well as in advanced attacking roles.
While his goal contributions have sometimes gone under the radar, teammates like Mbeumo believe his influence on the pitch is more significant than statistics suggest.
The comments come at the end of a season in which Manchester United have been evaluating their attacking options ahead of further squad adjustments in the summer transfer window.
For Mbeumo, however, Zirkzee’s value is clear — a strong, intelligent forward whose link-up ability and technical skill make him a valuable asset in the team’s evolving attack.
