Bryan Mbeumo has praised the early influence of interim head coach Michael Carrick, saying the Manchester United legend has brought a “different mentality” to Old Trafford since replacing Ruben Amorim last week.
Carrick’s reign began in style with a dominant derby win over Manchester City, earning widespread praise for United’s aggressive, front‑foot performance.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mbeumo highlighted how standards have shifted under the new boss. “A bit of everything. Training is different, mentality is different. We know we only have one aim and one way to go, so we have to do everything to do it,” he explained, noting that Carrick’s status as a club legend pushes players to give their maximum.
He added that “every manager has his own character and thinks differently,” and that the squad feel Carrick’s deep understanding of United’s identity from his playing days.
The Cameroon international admitted the recent period of change was not easy. Away at the Africa Cup of Nations during Amorim’s final games and Darren Fletcher’s brief caretaker spell, he said it was “a little bit difficult because you don’t know what is happening,” and that he had to focus on his national‑team duties rather than the turmoil at the club.
Since returning, though, Mbeumo sees “a lot of changes” and is concentrating on adapting quickly.
He stressed that his response is to stay focused, work as hard as possible and embrace the new demands, hoping to thrive in what he believes is a refreshed and more unified United dressing room under Carrick.
Mbeumo has played 17 games, scored seven goals, and assisted one in the Premier League this season.
