Bruno Metsu, the former coach of the Lions of Teranga, is facing serious health problems, reportedly stomach cancer. This health issue has led the French coach to step down from his position as the coach of Al-Wasl, where he had replaced Diego Maradona at the helm of the Dubai club.

Metsu’s health concerns prompted his hospitalization on October 9. In his absence, his deputy, Frenchman Gilles Morisseau, will temporarily assume the coaching responsibilities. Despite the challenging circumstances, Al Wasl currently sits fourth in the league standings, just two points behind the leader, Al Nasr, with 10 points after four days of the championship.

Bruno Metsu has an illustrious coaching career, notably leading Senegal to the final of the 2002 African Cup of Nations and the quarter-finals of the World Cup in the same year. At the club level, the former player of Valenciennes, Beauvais, and OGC Nice achieved considerable success, winning the United Arab Emirates Championship in 2003 and 2004, the AFC Champions League in 2003 with Al Ayn Club, the Crown Prince of Qatar Cup in 2005 with Al Gharrafa Doha, and the Gulf Cup in 2007 with the United Arab Emirates. His coaching career boasts an impressive track record.
