Bruno Lage is edging closer to a new chapter in his career with Al Ahly as talks between both sides continue to develop.

The Portuguese coach, who once led Benfica, could soon be taking charge of one of Africa’s most decorated clubs after the Cairo giants parted ways with Jose Riveiro last month due to poor results.

The board turned to Emad El-Nahhas on an interim basis but have now set their sights on a permanent appointment.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti on the X platform, Al-Ahly has already made an official offer to secure Lage’s services. He revealed that a video call was held in recent hours to advance discussions. Importantly, Lage’s family is said to be open to the idea of relocating to Egypt, which has boosted the chances of a deal.

The final details are still under negotiation, but the growing optimism in Cairo suggests a resolution may be close. Lage’s most recent spell ended at Benfica after a disappointing Champions League exit against Qarabag.
