Brown Ideye Signs for West Bromwich Albion from Dynamo Kyiv
Nigerian striker Brown Ideye is set to continue his career in the English Premier League, having completed a move from Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv to West Bromwich Albion.
The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Baggies, with an option for a further year, the club confirmed on their official website. The transfer fee is reported to be over €7 million, making it the biggest signing in West Bromwich Albion’s history.
Manager Alan Irvine expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing, describing Ideye as a “quality striker.” He added, “He’s a powerful and fast player who likes to play behind defenses. His international and Champions League experience will be of great use to us.”
Although Ideye missed out on Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, his reputation remains strong following successful spells in Europe. He began his career at Neuchâtel Xamax before moving to French club Sochaux. In 2011, he made the step up to Dynamo Kyiv for a reported €8 million and went on to score 45 goals in 106 appearances for the Ukrainian giants.
Brown Ideye’s arrival adds firepower to West Brom’s frontline as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Premier League season. The striker is now contracted to the English club until 2017.
