Brown and Olise strike as Bayern Munich lift German Super Cup at Dortmund

Rami Bensebaini was shown a straight red card in the 90th minute as Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday evening.

The Borussia Dortmund defender was dismissed after a forceful challenge on Ismael Saibari, who had come on as a substitute only nine minutes earlier. Bensebaini had started the match for Dortmund, while Saibari was introduced in the 81st minute for Bayern Munich.

The incident came during a tense closing period, with Bayern Munich protecting a narrow lead and Dortmund attempting to recover from a difficult position. Bensebaini’s dismissal left his side with 10 men for the final moments of the match and added a dramatic ending to the German football classic.

Bayern Munich took control of the contest in the 28th minute when Nathaniel Brown opened the scoring. The German champions then extended their advantage in first-half injury time, with Michael Olise making it 2-0 in the 45th minute plus one.

Borussia Dortmund reduced the deficit in the 75th minute through Fabio Silva, giving the hosts renewed hope of forcing the match back in their favour. Dortmund continued to push for an equaliser despite falling behind and later being reduced to 10 players.

Their best opportunity arrived in the third minute of added time. Maximilian Beier found himself one-on-one with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, but he lifted his effort over the crossbar in a remarkable miss. That chance proved to be Dortmund’s final major opening as Bayern Munich held on for a 2-1 victory and secured the trophy.

Bensebaini remains one of Borussia Dortmund’s key players, while Saibari is regarded as one of Bayern Munich’s most notable signings of the current summer transfer window. The Morocco international joined the German champions from PSV Eindhoven.

The meeting between the two clubs, traditionally one of the biggest fixtures in German football, ended with Bayern Munich celebrating at Signal Iduna Park. Their two goals before half-time established a decisive advantage, while Dortmund’s late response was not enough to prevent the champions from lifting the German Super Cup.

The late confrontation between Bensebaini and Saibari became the defining incident of the closing stages. Saibari’s appearance had begun less than 10 minutes before the challenge that brought the Dortmund defender’s direct dismissal, while Bensebaini had been involved from the start of the match.
