Brighton & Hove Albion have announced the signing of Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United on a five-year deal, AfricaSoccer.com can exclusively report.
The 19-year-old talent joins the club after an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord, where he made 37 appearances and scored 10 league goals, helping the Dutch side finish as Eredivisie runners-up.
Minteh was also instrumental for Feyenoord in their Dutch Cup triumph as he featured three times.
Minteh’s transfer fee is reportedly worth 30 million pounds ($37 million), according to media reports, making him the most expensive African U20 player.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, expressed his delight in welcoming Minteh to the club, stating, “Yankuba is a young talent who has attracted a lot of interest, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Minteh’s journey to Brighton began when he joined Danish side Odense BK in 2022, before signing with Newcastle in 2023 and being loaned out to Feyenoord.
The talented winger has already made a mark on the international stage, earning seven caps for Gambia and scoring three goals.
His addition to Brighton’s squad is expected to bring a new level of excitement and skill to the team’s attack.
