Brighton boss Hurzeler says Minteh can revive Liverpool dream with more success

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler believes Yankuba Minteh may have another opportunity to realise his ambition of joining Liverpool if he continues to perform well for the club.

Liverpool tried to sign the winger during the previous summer transfer window, but Brighton rejected their offer and chose to retain the player. According to The Sun, Liverpool’s proposal was worth £50m.

Hurzeler says Minteh’s chances of attracting interest from Liverpool again will depend on Brighton’s performances as a team.

“Not joining Liverpool? If the whole team succeeds again, Minteh will get the attention again, and perhaps he can fulfil his dream in the next transfer window,” the German said during a news conference.

Minteh moved to Brighton from Newcastle in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth £30m. The 21-year-old, who primarily operates on the right wing, is under contract with Brighton until 2029.

He has made 66 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists.

Brighton are preparing to face Leeds United next Saturday in the third round of the Premier League. The match will provide Minteh with another opportunity to contribute as he continues his career on the south coast.

Liverpool’s previous attempt to recruit him ended without an agreement after Brighton stood firm on their decision not to sell. The club’s reported valuation of £50m was not enough to secure the winger’s services, leaving Minteh to continue at Brighton.

Hurzeler’s comments suggest that a future move has not been ruled out, but that any renewed interest could be influenced by Minteh’s form and Brighton’s collective success. The manager linked the player’s prospects directly to the team’s ability to perform well again.

Minteh joined Newcastle before moving to Brighton, and the transfer in 2024 marked the beginning of his current spell with the club. Since then, he has established a record of nine Premier League goals and eight assists across 66 matches.

With his contract running until 2029, Brighton remain in a strong position regarding the player’s future. However, Hurzeler acknowledged that further success could bring Minteh back into Liverpool’s focus during a subsequent transfer window.

For now, Minteh remains a Brighton player and is expected to be involved in the club’s preparations for the meeting with Leeds United. The Premier League fixture comes as Brighton continue their campaign with the winger’s future still attracting attention because of Liverpool’s earlier interest.
