Brice Samba’s arrival at Stade Rennais has brought an end to Steve Mandanda’s run as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, but rather than sparking conflict, the situation has strengthened the bond between the two.
Samba, who joined from RC Lens, revealed the mutual respect he shares with Mandanda, despite the shift in roles.
Ahead of Rennes’ upcoming clash with AS Saint-Étienne, Samba opened up about their relationship, describing their connection as one forged through experience. “I knew what to expect. I was lucky enough to work alongside Steve in Marseille. We get on pretty well, we get along pretty well. You know… football is like that. Even for me, maybe a new goalkeeper will come, be more efficient and take my place,” Samba said.
Rennes, fresh off a 1-0 victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace, are now under the guidance of head coach Habib Beye, following the mid-season departure of Jorge Sampaoli. The team will be eager to secure another win as they look to build momentum under their new manager.
