Brice Samba facing suspension against Olympique Marseille

Brice Samba is set to miss Rennes’ final Ligue 1 match of the season against Olympique Marseille on May 17 following a yellow card he received during Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Lyon.

The French goalkeeper was booked in the 40th minute after bringing down Afonso Moreira inside the penalty area, conceding a spot kick.

This was Samba’s fifth yellow card of the campaign, triggering an automatic one-match ban according to French Football Federation regulations. The suspension would force Rennes to turn to one of their backup goalkeepers, with options including Mathys Siluistrie (20), Kilian Belazzoug (20), or Ayoub Akabou (18).

However, according to Ouest-France, Stade Rennais intends to appeal the yellow card decision. Whether the Brittany-based club will be successful in overturning the booking remains to be seen. The outcome of this appeal could prove crucial for Rennes heading into their season finale against Marseille.

Brice Samba transferred from RC Lens to Stade Rennais for a reported fee of €14 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract until June 2029. He has made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.
