Brian Brobbey makes Sunderland history with Manchester City hat-trick

Brian Brobbey became the first Sunderland player since Jermain Defoe in 2016 to score a Premier League hat-trick, despite Manchester City beating his side 5-3 on Sunday.

The 24-year-old striker reached the milestone during the fifth round of league fixtures, marking a memorable individual display in defeat. Defoe was the last Sunderland player to score three times in a single Premier League match.

Brobbey, who is of Ghanaian origin, has now scored three goals in five league appearances this season. His performance against the Citizens underlined his attacking importance for the Black Cats, even though Sunderland left the match without a point.
