Brentford manager Thomas Frank has voiced his belief in Bryan Mbeumo’s potential, describing the Cameroonian international as an “ambitious” player capable of thriving at the highest levels of the game.
The 25-year-old winger has been in excellent form this season, stepping into the spotlight following Ivan Toney’s departure to the Saudi Pro League.
In just 10 Premier League appearances, Mbeumo has already netted eight goals, positioning himself as one of Brentford’s most potent attacking forces.
His performances have reportedly caught the attention of Liverpool, where he is seen as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah amid ongoing speculation linking the Egyptian star with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Mbeumo’s ascent has been remarkable since Frank recruited him from French side Troyes in 2019.
Having joined Brentford as a promising 19-year-old, Mbeumo has become an integral part of Frank’s squad at the Gtech Community Stadium, transforming into a player of both technical skill and tactical maturity.
He now stands on the verge of surpassing his best Premier League tally of nine goals for the West London club, a milestone he could reach just halfway through this season.
Reflecting on Mbeumo’s journey and growth, Frank expressed admiration for the player’s commitment and development.
I always admire Bryan’s ambition,” Frank said, recalling his initial meeting with Mbeumo in France when the player was still a teenager.
I was privileged [that] I was here when we signed him, and I was flying down to Troyes and had a meeting with him and his agent.
He was a young boy, a young man, at 19. [He] didn’t really speak English, and now he’s 25 and much more mature as a person and as a footballer.”
Frank noted that Mbeumo’s determination and ambition have been key factors in his impressive development, crediting the winger’s mindset as a driving force behind his progress.
He’s flying, and I think that development is fantastic,” Frank continued.
And his ambitions, I love it – you can’t achieve anything without ambitions.
So I understand him, and I think he’s got the qualities to play at the highest level.”
This season, Mbeumo has evolved from a supporting role to Brentford’s primary attacking threat, handling the increased responsibility with ease.
His versatility, skill on the ball, and eye for goal have made him a standout player in the Premier League, catching the eye of top clubs.
With the potential for further growth, Mbeumo could be well on his way to a career at one of Europe’s elite teams, especially if his trajectory continues under Frank’s guidance.
As Brentford aims to secure a mid-table position in the league, Mbeumo’s consistent performances have become vital to the team’s aspirations.
His story reflects the club’s ability to nurture talent, and Thomas Frank’s steadfast belief in his players’ potential has been instrumental in their development.
Whether Mbeumo will stay to achieve his goals with Brentford or move on to a bigger stage, his impact on the team and his remarkable journey from Troyes to Premier League stardom are undeniable.
