Brentford sign Senegal full-back Haji Malick Diouf from West Ham

Brentford have signed Senegal international Haji Malick Diouf from West Ham on a five-year contract, with the fee for the 21-year-old left-back not disclosed.

Diouf becomes Brentford’s fifth signing of the summer, despite only four other arrivals being named by the club: Mali international Mamadou Sangare from Lens, Austria midfielder Yannick Schuster from Salzburg, English forward Jadon Anthony from Burnley and English striker Callum Wilson from West Ham.

The move represents the fourth European chapter of Diouf’s career. He began with Senegalese club Galaxy before moving to Norway to join Tromsø in 2023, aged 18. He later transferred to Slavia Prague and then spent last season with West Ham in English football.

Diouf established himself as an important player for the Hammers during his first campaign in England, making 32 appearances and providing five assists. His contribution, however, was not enough to prevent West Ham from being relegated to the Championship.

He also impressed on the international stage with Senegal. Diouf helped his country win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before the title was withdrawn and awarded to Morocco. He subsequently featured for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews welcomed the signing and said Diouf fitted the profile the club were seeking.

“We’re delighted to bring in Malick. He is a player in the ideal age bracket for us and has plenty of room to develop,” said Andrews.

“I think he had a fantastic season with West Ham in his first season in English football, and some of the qualities and skills he possesses as a full-back will add significant value to an already excellent team. I am really excited to work with him.”

Diouf’s first professional experience outside Senegal came with Tromsø, where he played 21 matches, scored three goals and helped the Norwegian side finish third in the league.

In January 2024, he joined Slavia Prague. During his time in the Czech Republic, he won the Czech league title and also played in European competition before making his move to West Ham.

He now joins a Brentford side preparing to compete in the Europa League. The club have already begun their season in impressive fashion, opening with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham.

The arrival of Diouf gives Brentford another option at left-back as they balance domestic commitments with their return to European football. His experience in Norway, the Czech Republic and England, together with his international involvement with Senegal, will add to the squad’s depth ahead of the new campaign.
