Brentford have rejected a £25 million bid from Newcastle United for forward Yoane Wissa, though the Magpies remain keen on signing the DR Congo international.
The proposed deal was turned down by Brentford, who value the 28-year-old significantly higher, especially following key summer departures.
Wissa, who recently returned from the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal, is now holding direct talks with the Brentford hierarchy regarding his future, per The Athletic.
Nottingham Forest are also in the picture, having had a renewed bid rejected earlier this month. Forest had previously failed to land Wissa in January, and Brentford’s current stance suggests they remain firm.
The West London club reportedly value the player at over £50 million — a reflection of his increasing importance following Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United.
Wissa has just one year remaining on his contract, although Brentford retain an option to extend it by a further year.
He scored 19 Premier League goals last season and has been pivotal in Brentford’s attack since joining from Lorient in 2021.
His potential departure would mark another major change for Brentford, who are undergoing a transition under new head coach Keith Andrews.
Thomas Frank, the man who brought Wissa to England, has left for Tottenham Hotspur along with several staff members.
In addition to Mbeumo’s exit, captain Christian Norgaard has also moved on, joining Arsenal in another high-profile transfer.
