Brentford on verge of €48m swoop for Mali midfield star Mamadou Sangare

Brentford are closing in on a €48 million deal to sign RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare, with negotiations between the two clubs now at an advanced stage.

The Premier League side have been in talks with Lens for several weeks as they work to secure the 24-year-old Mali international, and an agreement is now understood to be close.

According to L’Équipe, Brentford are increasingly confident of completing a deal for Sangare as they prepare for the expected departure of Jordan Henderson to Chelsea.

The proposed move would represent a significant investment from Brentford as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign.

Sangare emerged as key Lens figure

Sangare has established himself as an important player for Lens following an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 last season.

The midfielder played a key role in the club’s push for Champions League qualification while also helping them secure a historic Coupe de France triumph.

His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, with his availability now sparking a battle between Premier League sides.

Brentford, however, appear to have moved ahead in the race and are now working to finalise the €48m agreement with Lens.

Crystal Palace threaten Brentford’s move

The Bees could still face a late challenge from Crystal Palace, who are monitoring the situation and are reportedly prepared to make a stronger offer for Sangare.

Palace’s interest is strengthened by the presence of former Lens boss Pierre Sage, who now manages the London club.

The Eagles are considering stepping up their pursuit as they attempt to beat Brentford to the midfielder’s signature.

Despite Palace’s interest, Brentford remain in pole position, with negotiations with Lens having progressed significantly.
