The Gambia national football team encounters yet another setback as the aircraft designated for their transport to Cote d’Ivoire for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations fails to take off yet again, AfricaSoccer.com can exclusively report
Initially scheduled to arrive in Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament yesterday, the Air Cote d’Ivoire flight experienced a forced landing due to the loss of cabin pressure and oxygen just nine minutes into its journey from Banjul to Abidjan.
In response to the crisis, Gambia’s President, Adama Barrow, intervened and arranged for a larger aircraft to transport the team to Ivory Coast.
Despite this effort, the subsequent plane, intended to carry the Gambian team from Banjul to Abidjan, also failed to take off, citing technical problems.
The Gambia Football Federation confirmed these challenges, raising concerns as the national team prepares to face reigning champions Senegal, Guinea, and Cameroon in their group-stage fixtures starting on Monday.
With time ticking, the team grapples with logistical obstacles that cast a shadow over their participation in the prestigious tournament.
