The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared a substantial 40% boost in the Prize Money for the triumphant team of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled in Côte d’Ivoire this month.
The victorious team of the AFCON, Côte d’Ivoire 2023, will now be awarded a grand total of USD 7,000,000.
Meanwhile, the Runner-up’s prize has also seen a notable increase, reaching USD 4,000,000.
Moving down the ranks, each semi-finalist is set to receive USD 2,500,000, and the four Quarter-finalists will be granted USD 1,300,000 each.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made over the past two years, emphasizing the commitment to elevating the Prize Money not only for AFCON but also for other major competitions under CAF’s umbrella.
“CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions. We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money,” he said.
Dr. Motsepe is optimistic that this significant increase will not only enhance the sport but also contribute to the development of football.
He anticipates positive impacts on various football stakeholders and expects the funds to assist Member Associations in strengthening their administrative capabilities.
“I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.”
