The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) has officially terminated the contract of Stallions head coach Brama Traoré and his entire technical staff following the country’s disappointing campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the FBF confirmed that the decision was taken after a thorough assessment of Burkina Faso’s participation at the tournament, which ended in the Round of 16.
The Stallions bowed out of the competition after a heavy 3-0 defeat to regional rivals Cote d’Ivoire, a result that fell well below expectations and sparked widespread disappointment among supporters and football stakeholders.
According to the federation, the technical team affected by the decision includes Issa Balboné, Pierre Bazié, Mohamed Kaboré, and Wilfried Da, all of whom worked under Traoré during his tenure.
“The results were deemed far short of the objectives set for the national team in this major continental competition,” the statement said, noting that the early exit contradicted the ambitions outlined ahead of the tournament.
Burkina Faso had publicly set a target of reaching at least the semi-finals of AFCON 2025, building on the positive momentum and respectable performances recorded in previous editions of the competition.
Traoré, who took charge of the Stallions in 2024, was thanked by the federation for his commitment and service to national football during his time in charge.
The federation assured supporters that immediate steps will be taken to begin the process of appointing a new technical staff, as Burkina Faso looks to regroup and refocus ahead of upcoming international assignments.
