Mourinho confirms Brahim Diaz will return to Real Madrid training on Monday

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has confirmed that Morocco international Brahim Diaz will return to training on Monday following an extended summer break after the 2026 World Cup.

The Portuguese coach admitted that the delayed arrival of several key players has disrupted preparations for the new season, with Real Madrid still without a number of stars who were involved in the latter stages of the tournament.

Speaking after his side’s 2-2 pre-season draw against Fiorentina, Mourinho expressed frustration at being unable to work with his full squad.

“I’m concerned about not having everyone, and I would like to have three weeks of work with the others. It’s not possible. On Monday, Vini Jr., Brahim, and Bernardo will arrive.”

Mourinho still waiting for full squad

Real Madrid’s pre-season preparations have been affected by the absence of players who featured deep into the World Cup, forcing Mourinho to work with a limited group during the opening weeks of training.

The friendly draw against Fiorentina offered valuable minutes to players already in camp, including Endrick and Denzel Dumfries, but Mourinho acknowledged that tactical preparations remain incomplete until the remaining internationals return.

The coach stressed that the club will continue to build fitness gradually as players rejoin the squad.

“Dumfries, Carlos, and Endrick will already have a few more days of work. Little by little, until the boys who played in the World Cup semifinals and final arrive, with the final being only Cucurella.”

Fresh opportunity for Morocco star

Brahim’s return will provide him with another chance to establish himself in Mourinho’s plans ahead of the new campaign.

The Moroccan midfielder made 42 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 season, largely operating as an influential squad player.

In La Liga, the 26-year-old featured in 30 matches, scoring once and registering six assists.

Despite his contributions, fierce competition for places in Real Madrid’s attacking midfield positions means Brahim will once again face a battle to secure a regular starting role.

With pre-season preparations entering a crucial phase, the Atlas Lions star will hope his return to training marks the beginning of a campaign in which he can play an even bigger role at the Santiago Bernabéu.
