Brahim Diaz credits Lunin for Real Madrid winner

Brahim Diaz scored the decisive goal as Real Madrid defeated Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 at Riazor to win the Teresa Herrera Trophy.

The midfielder struck just before half-time, finishing a well-constructed move that gave José Mourinho’s team its first piece of silverware under the Portuguese coach.

Diaz later explained that Andriy Lunin played the most important role in creating the goal. The Ukrainian goalkeeper spotted his forward run and delivered an accurate pass, allowing Díaz to control the ball with his chest before calmly finding the net.

“Lunin saw me perfectly. Controlling the ball with my chest gave me a big advantage. It was a beautiful goal, but all the credit goes to Lunin,” Diaz told Real Madrid TV.

The 27-year-old also spoke positively about life under Mourinho and the atmosphere within the squad. Diaz says he feels comfortable, is working better and enjoys collaborating with the coaching staff and his teammates.

“I feel very good. I am working better and I am very happy with Mourinho, the staff and my teammates,” he said. “This is Real Madrid, we want to continue writing history.”

The victory offered Madrid an encouraging start to their preparations and gave Díaz a memorable moment on a night when teamwork made the difference.
