Bradley Barcola sale could earn Lyon a windfall

Bradley Barcola’s expected exit from Paris Saint-Germain could end up helping Olympique Lyonnais as well.

Liverpool are said to be leading the race for the winger, and PSG would only let him go for a huge fee.

The 23-year-old wants a bigger role and appears ready to push on with his career after returning from the World Cup. PSG have already seen several moves in their squad this summer, with Goncalo Ramos, Kang-In Lee and Randal Kolo Muani all moving on or being pushed toward the exit. Barcola now looks like the next major name in line.

For Lyon, the deal matters because of FIFA’s solidarity mechanism. Even without a sell-on clause, the club that helped develop Barcola would still receive a share of the transfer fee. If PSG reach their reported asking price of 170 million euros, Lyon could collect around 8.5 million euros.

That would not transform Lyon’s finances, but it would still be a welcome bonus from a player they formed. In other words, one blockbuster PSG sale could quietly send money back to another Ligue 1 side.
