Milan were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan sent off and the English side awarded two first-half penalties in a one-sided Europa League encounter.
The defeat leaves Milan on three points and 24th in the league-phase table after three matches. Bournemouth moved on to nine points – a perfect record – and climbed to third.
Bournemouth took the lead in the eighth minute when Justin Kluivert converted from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after Milan defender Koni De Winter was penalised for handball following a video assistant referee review.
Milan’s problems deepened in the 27th minute when Maignan was shown a straight red card for an incident involving Tyler Adams as the two teams prepared for a corner. The dismissal left the Italian side with 10 players for the remainder of the match.
Bournemouth were awarded another penalty five minutes later, and Marcus Tavernier made no mistake from 12 yards to double the hosts’ advantage in the 32nd minute.
Reduced to 10 men and unable to match Bournemouth’s intensity, Milan struggled to create a route back into the game. The hosts continued to threaten as the visitors’ frustration grew.
Amine Adli completed the scoring in the 84th minute with a finely struck direct free-kick, adding a third goal for Bournemouth and putting the result beyond doubt.
The home side had chances to extend their lead during the closing stages, taking advantage of Milan’s numerical disadvantage and visible disappointment. However, Bournemouth were unable to add to their total as they secured a 3-0 victory.
