Bournemouth have identified Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as a leading candidate to replace Antoine Semenyo, with the Ghana international expected to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.

According to the Daily Mail, the Cherries are already planning for life without Semenyo, who is on course to complete a big-money move to Manchester City. City are understood to be ready to trigger the attacker’s £65m release clause as soon as the winter window opens on 1 January.

With Semenyo’s departure increasingly seen as inevitable, Bournemouth have turned their attention to Fatawu, who has impressed since joining Leicester and is viewed as a like-for-like replacement in wide areas.

Leicester, however, are in no rush to sell and are believed to be holding out for a fee of around £30m for the 20-year-old attacker. Any move would represent a significant investment for Bournemouth, but one they see as necessary to maintain their attacking threat.

Fatawu’s pace, direct running and creativity have made him one of Leicester’s standout performers, and his profile fits Bournemouth’s recruitment strategy as they look to stay competitive in the Premier League.

While no formal bid has yet been lodged, talks are expected to gather pace in the coming weeks as Bournemouth prepare for Semenyo’s exit and Leicester weigh up whether to cash in on one of their prized assets.
