The rivalry between Yassine Bounou and Édouard Mendy continued to capture attention during the 2025/26 Roshn Saudi Pro League season, with both African stars once again producing outstanding performances between the posts.

The campaign saw Al Nassr FC crowned league champions, while Al Hilal SFC finished second and Al Ahli Saudi FC secured third place after an intense title race that lasted until the closing rounds.

Bono and Mendy Share Clean Sheet Record

Following the conclusion of the season, statistics revealed that Bono and Mendy finished as the goalkeepers with the highest number of clean sheets in the league.

The Moroccan goalkeeper kept 14 clean sheets for Al Hilal, while the Senegalese shot stopper matched the same total for Al Ahli, underlining their importance to their respective clubs throughout the campaign.

It marked another chapter in their growing rivalry in Saudi Arabia, with the pair also sharing a similar achievement during the 2023/24 season when both recorded 15 clean sheets.

Mendy Had The Edge Last Season

Although Bono bounced back strongly this season, the previous campaign saw Mendy finish ahead in the clean sheet rankings.

The Senegal international managed 12 clean sheets last season, while Bono recorded nine as the competition between the two African stars continued to intensify.

African Rivalry Continues To Grow

Bono and Mendy are widely regarded among the finest goalkeepers on the African continent, and their rivalry has only grown stronger since their arrivals in the Roshn League.

The competition between the two gained further attention after Senegal national football team defeated Morocco national football team 1-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The rivalry remained a major talking point afterward following the controversy surrounding the Confederation of African Football’s decision regarding the title after the well known incidents linked to the tournament.
