Boubakary Diarra is being linked with a return to Indonesian football, with the free agent reportedly attracting interest from Semen Padang.

The 32-year-old defensive midfielder, currently listed as without a club after leaving Maltese side Sliema Wanderers in November 2025, has been rumoured as a target for the Super League outfit, according to data logged on 16 December. The suggested move from free agency to Semen Padang carries an unspecified probability, underlining that discussions, if any, remain at an early and speculative stage.

Diarra’s current market value is put at €250k, a figure that may appeal to Semen Padang as they look for experienced midfield reinforcements without paying a transfer fee. Any deal would involve only personal terms, with no contract start or end dates yet indicated and no fee attached.

Born in Villepinte on 30 August 1993, Diarra holds both French and Malian nationality and is primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder, operating in front of the back line and favouring his right foot. His career has been notably itinerant, taking in spells in Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Kuwait, Malta and Indonesia.

After early years with Torino’s youth ranks and a loan at AC Bra, he moved through FK Kruoja Pakruojis in Lithuania before establishing himself in Portugal with SC Covilhã, CD Tondela, FC Rieti, Cova Piedade and Varzim SC. Subsequent switches to Mosta FC and Sliema Wanderers in Malta were followed by a stint at PSIS Semarang, giving him prior experience of Indonesian football and its Super League environment.

Now a free agent once again after his short-lived return to Sliema, a move to Semen Padang would mark Diarra’s second spell in Indonesia and offer a platform to reassert his value in a familiar league, potentially shaping the final phase of his career if the rumoured transfer comes to fruition.
