Botola Pro: Patrice Carteron insists Wydad are not out of title race
Patrice Carteron has sparked debate among supporters after delivering a bold message following Wydad Athletic Club’s disappointing defeat to Ittihad Yaacoub El Mansour.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the French coach insisted that Wydad remain focused on their primary objective for the season.
“Our goal with the president is to win the title, and despite the difficult circumstances, the goal remains,” he stated.
Carteron did not hide his frustration after the loss, admitting the result was a major setback.
“Whatever I say will not express our frustration. We got zero points in the match,” he added.
Despite mounting pressure, the former Zamalek SC coach made it clear that stepping down is not on his agenda.
“I did not submit my resignation, and my goal is to develop the team no matter the difficulties, and I have experience in this field,” Carteron said.
Since replacing Mohamed Amine Benhachem, Carteron has endured a difficult start to life at Wydad. The team is yet to record a victory in five matches, managing draws against Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi and Kawkab Marrakech, while suffering defeats to Fath Union Sport, Maghreb Fez, and Ittihad Yaacoub El Mansour.
The latest result leaves Ittihad Yaacoub El Mansour on 11 points, sitting second from bottom in the standings, while Wydad remain fourth with 31 points, increasing the pressure on Carteron as the season progresses.
