Botola Pro 1: Morocco suspends league over clubs participation in CAF inter-club competitions
The Moroccan League Association has announced a temporary suspension of professional championship competitions in the coming period.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the association explained that the break aims to allow Moroccan clubs competing in African tournaments to play their home and away matches in the Champions League and Confederation Cup under optimal conditions.
The pause also coincides with the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with league action set to resume later according to a schedule that will be released in due course.
Raja Casablanca currently leads the league with 30 points from 15 matches, followed closely by Wydad Casablanca with 29 points from just 12 games.
The Moroccan sports website Al-Botola highlighted that the league’s announcement did not clarify the status of the postponed tenth-round matches, originally scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Earlier, the league had indicated that the Maghreb Fez vs. Olympique Dcheira match would be moved forward to accommodate these fixtures, only to later retract that decision without explanation.
Looking ahead to African competitions, Raja Casablanca will host Pyramids FC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals next Friday, while RS Berkane faces Al-Hilal of Sudan on Saturday.
At the Confederation Cup level, Wydad Casablanca will take on Olympique Safi in an all-Moroccan clash on Sunday.
