Morocco star Hakim Ziyech earns plaudit from Botafogo defender Alex Telles

Botafogo defender Alex Telles is confident Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech will make a significant impact at the Brazilian club once he fully adapts to his new environment.

Telles praised Ziyech’s technical quality and experience, insisting that the former Chelsea and Ajax star has the ability to become an influential figure as he settles into Brazilian football.

Speaking after Botafogo’s 1-0 victory over Chapecoense, the Brazilian defender stressed that Ziyech’s talent is unquestionable, pointing to his experience in European football and his appearances at the FIFA World Cup.

However, Telles acknowledged that adapting to a new country and footballing culture takes time, particularly when a player must adjust to different playing conditions and the demands of a new competition.

He believes Ziyech’s humility and willingness to learn will help him overcome the initial challenges and gradually find his best form.

Telles also highlighted Botafogo’s strong dressing-room atmosphere, describing the squad as a united group whose support has helped the Moroccan international feel welcome since his arrival.

The defender expects Ziyech’s performances to improve as he gains more playing time, develops a better understanding with his teammates and becomes increasingly comfortable with the pace and conditions of Brazilian football.

Telles further emphasised that Ziyech possesses the individual quality to change games, particularly through his technical ability, creativity and capacity to trouble opposition defences.

With time and continued adaptation, the Botafogo defender believes the Moroccan star can become an important asset for the club as he looks to make his mark in Brazil.
