Borussia Dortmund are hoping to bring Carney Chukwuemeka back after his short stint at the 2025 Club World Cup, but serious challenges lie ahead for the Bundesliga club.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has confirmed the club’s interest in re-signing the Chelsea midfielder, ideally on a season-long loan with a future purchase option.
According to WAZ, Chelsea are eager to move the 21-year-old on, but Dortmund are bracing for competition. A Premier League club is expected to make a strong financial offer, which would leave BVB out of the race.
Even if no bid arrives, Dortmund’s biggest hurdle could be the player’s wages. Chukwuemeka reportedly earns over six million euros per year at Chelsea. To make the move back to Germany work, he would have to give up a large chunk of that salary.
It remains unclear if the England youth international is open to such a cut. Dortmund want him, Chelsea want him gone—but the numbers might make it impossible.
