Sanogo Edges Closer to Bordeaux Loan Move from Arsenal
French striker Yaya Sanogo appears to be on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan from Arsenal, as negotiations between the two clubs near completion.
The 21-year-old forward, who has struggled for regular first-team football at the Emirates, is expected to be sent out on loan in order to gain valuable playing time during the second half of the season. While there had been interest from several English and French clubs, Bordeaux has emerged as the most likely destination.
Speaking to Bordeaux’s official radio station, GoldFM, on Tuesday evening, club president Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed ongoing discussions with Arsenal and revealed Sanogo’s willingness to join the Girondins.
“Sanogo wants to come to Bordeaux on loan, and he has made this known to his manager, Arsène Wenger,” said Triaud. “We are working towards bringing him here. We are fully committed to this option and have requested a response from Arsenal by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.”
Arsenal are reportedly considering Bordeaux’s proposal carefully, mindful of Sanogo’s development needs and the playing time that the French club can offer. The striker, of Ivorian descent, joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2013 but has found it difficult to break into the starting XI, especially with competition from more experienced forwards.
If the deal is finalised, Sanogo will stay at Bordeaux until the end of the current season, providing manager Willy Sagnol with an additional attacking option as the club pushes for a strong finish in Ligue 1.
An official announcement could come as early as today, signalling a fresh opportunity for the young forward to reignite his form in familiar surroundings.
