Wahbi Khazri Returns to Bordeaux Pre-Season with Confidence and Optimism
Tunisian international Wahbi Khazri has rejoined Bordeaux’s first-team squad for pre-season training, along with the club’s other international players, ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign. The group returned to action on July 4 and immediately got down to serious preparation.
Speaking about the early days of training, Khazri admitted the pace had picked up quickly.
“It’s hard work—we started yesterday and straight away it hit the ground running. We feel like we’re in the thick of things right away,” he said.
With the start of the season fast approaching, the midfielder knows there’s little time to ease in. “The first matches are coming up very quickly, so we’ll have to be ready.”
Khazri also reflected on the short break he and other internationals were granted following a demanding summer that included national team duty.
“During the holidays, we had 10 days of selection, so the coach gave us an extra week to recover and clear our heads,” he explained. “It did us good—we recharged our batteries.”
Despite enjoying his time off, Khazri expressed happiness to be back in training and, importantly, in good physical shape.
“When you’re on vacation, you want to stay because it’s so good… but we’re happy to be back. I feel good and I’m happy not to have any physical problems.”
Looking ahead to the pre-season friendlies, Khazri emphasised their importance in shaping the squad’s readiness for competitive matches.
“These matches are essential for preparation. We’ll work on the small adjustments and fine-tune things.”
He also praised the squad’s continuity as a positive sign for the season to come.
“The squad hasn’t changed much, and that’s good for the future.”
With confidence in his fitness and optimism about the team’s prospects, Khazri’s return adds energy and experience to a Bordeaux side looking to make a strong start to the upcoming season.
