Lamine Sané Set to Miss Start of Ligue 1 Season After Knee Surgery
Girondins de Bordeaux will have to start the 2015-16 Ligue 1 season without their key defender, Lamine Sané, who is set to miss several weeks following knee surgery. The 28-year-old Senegalese international underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to address ongoing cartilage issues.
Sané, who has been struggling with the knee problem for some time, is no stranger to this type of surgery. This marks the second time he has had the procedure, having previously undergone a similar operation in November 2014 after injuring his knee during the sixth matchday of the previous Ligue 1 campaign.
The central defender is expected to be sidelined for a period of three weeks to a month, leaving Bordeaux without one of their most experienced players at the start of the season. Bordeaux will open their campaign at home against Stade de Reims on Sunday, August 9, and will be hoping to make a strong start despite Sané’s absence.
