Guillaume Hoarau reflected on his departure to a less competitive football championship after scoring his first goal for Bordeaux against Lorient (3-2) on Tuesday, following his return from China. Speaking on his club’s website, the 29-year-old striker shed light on the reasons behind his decision.
“I made it clear that my departure wasn’t solely for football,” he explained. “I was aware of what I was leaving behind when I departed. However, my choice was straightforward. I opted to prioritize financial security at that point in my life. Regardless of what others said, I remained focused on moving forward. Throughout my career, I’ve always made decisions based on sporting considerations. While I am passionate about football, there was an opportunity that presented itself to me. While I’m financially comfortable, I recognized the transient nature of football careers. I made a sacrifice over three years, deciding to prioritize financial stability, with the intention of returning to pursue my footballing aspirations.”
Hoarau emphasized his desire to lead a fulfilling life and pursue various ambitions, even beyond his football career, which require financial resources. “I’m not one to turn down such opportunities. I made this decision as an individual and am returning as such. I’ve learned from my past mistakes, of which there were some,” he added.
