French-born Congolese defender Chrislain Matsima is the latest injury concern for FC Augsburg following their 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Matsima, who was injured during the final stages of the match, is now a major doubt for the team’s next fixture.
Augsburg head coach Jess Thorup revealed the concerning news during the post-match press conference, noting the severity of the situation.
“I just spoke to him and he passed out. It hurts at the moment, we have to see over the next few days what it looks like and how bad it is. We can’t evaluate that today,” Thorup explained about Matsima, who had to stay on the pitch despite his condition due to the team’s substitution limit being reached.
The potential absence of Matsima for the crucial away game at KSV Holstein adds to Augsburg’s defensive woes, with captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw also unavailable due to a suspension. Thorup now faces a selection headache as he looks to reshape his three-man backline amidst mounting challenges.
