Ghana’s Black Stars face Niger in their final AFCON 2025 qualifier on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium, aiming to salvage pride after a disappointing campaign. With qualification already out of reach for Ghana, the game carries added significance for Niger, who retain a slim chance of advancing, depending on the result of Angola’s match against Sudan.

Niger enters the clash on a high, having secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Sudan in their last outing. The win has bolstered their hopes of sneaking into the qualification spots if Angola falters.

For Ghana, the match is an opportunity to end the group stage on a positive note and regain some momentum ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo acknowledged the challenges but emphasized the importance of the game for the team’s morale and national pride.

“We want to beat them to at least, for our honour, get the third place. And this is what we’re working for,” Addo said.

“I know it’s very, very difficult, but surely, again, we need the support. And if anyone of us wants to make Ghana better, the players need support. That’s all I can say.”

Addressing the disappointment surrounding Ghana’s AFCON performance, Addo admitted to sharing the frustrations of fans but urged everyone to look forward.

“I understand that people are disappointed, maybe angry. I was also disappointed, but surely we have to move on now. We have to do our best to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.”

The match kicks off at 4:00 PM local time and will be broadcast live on SuperSport, giving fans an opportunity to see whether Ghana can deliver a performance that restores some confidence.

For Niger, the stakes are higher. A win, combined with the right result in the Angola-Sudan fixture, could see them clinch a qualification spot.

Ghana, however, is determined to spoil their party and use the game to rebuild their confidence and showcase their potential.

While the Black Stars’ AFCON journey has fallen short of expectations, the match against Niger represents a chance to demonstrate resilience and renew their commitment to the nation.

Fans will be hoping for a spirited performance that points to brighter days ahead.
