Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah clarified that the Black Stars’ performance in the 6-1 victory over Egypt in the Cup play-off first leg tie of the 2014 World Cup was not driven by money. The players were rewarded with an envelope of $15,000 by a Ghanaian oil company, a partner of the football federation. Asamoah emphasized that for the players, the motivation was not the money but rather the honor that comes from playing in a World Cup, which is crucial for their careers. He also mentioned that some players earn more at the club level than in the national team.
