Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, have landed in Cairo to begin the final leg of preparations for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which kicks off on April 27.
The team departed Accra on Saturday, April 19, following a two-week training camp in the Ghanaian capital.
Prior to that, the squad returned from a week-long international outing in Rabat, Morocco, where they participated in a triangular tournament as part of their buildup to the competition.
The week in Egypt will serve as the final tune-up before the group stage begins, allowing the coaching staff to refine tactics, solidify team cohesion, and evaluate individual performances in a more intensive setting.
Drawn into Group C, Ghana faces a challenging path to the knockout stage.
They will compete against Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic — three sides capable of testing the four-time champions.
The Black Satellites have a rich pedigree in youth football, having won the U-20 AFCON in 1993, 1999, 2009, and most recently in 2021.
They also hold the distinction of being the only African team to have lifted the FIFA U-20 World Cup, a milestone achieved in Egypt in 2009 — a historic triumph that still resonates strongly within Ghanaian football circles.
Now returning to the country where their global success was sealed, the current generation of players will look to write a new chapter of their own.
With expectations high and history beckoning, the spotlight is firmly on the squad to rekindle the glory of previous years.
As the countdown continues toward the tournament’s opening match, all eyes will be on how Ghana’s young talents rise to the occasion against the continent’s best.
The team’s week in Cairo could prove pivotal in determining whether they arrive at the AFCON not just as contenders, but as favourites to claim a fifth continental crown.
