Black Lions FC add 22-year-old Ghana goalkeeper Wahab Abubakar

Ghana goalkeeper Wahab Abubakar has joined Black Lions FC from Holy Stars FC, giving the Botswana club a new option between the posts.

The 22-year-old completed the move on 23 August 2026 after leaving Holy Stars, where he had spent the previous two seasons. Abubakar’s new contract runs until 30 June 2027.

Standing at 1.94m, Abubakar is a right-footed goalkeeper who was born in Adabraka. His move to Black Lions represents the latest step in a career that has so far taken him between clubs in Ghana and Botswana.

Abubakar joined Holy Stars from Shooting Stars in August 2024. Before that switch, he had spent the 2023-24 season with Shooting Stars after moving there from Accra Lions in July 2023.

He first joined Accra Lions in August 2022, beginning his senior club career before moving through Shooting Stars and Holy Stars. The move to Black Lions now takes him into a new spell outside Ghana after his time with Holy Stars.

Abubakar’s arrival adds a goalkeeper with experience across several Ghanaian clubs to the Black Lions squad. His physical profile, including his 1.94m height, will form part of his role as he begins life with the new club.

The transfer also marks a change in national football setting for the goalkeeper, who has spent his previous club career with Accra Lions, Shooting Stars and Holy Stars. Black Lions become his fourth senior club since joining Accra Lions in 2022.

Abubakar has now signed for Black Lions FC on a contract that keeps him at the club until the end of June 2027.
