Bissau-born Ansu Fati takes decisive step away from Barcelona with Monaco loan move

Ansu Fati’s time at Barcelona appears to be nearing its end, as the club finalises a plan to send the young forward out on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

The Guinea-Bissau-born La Masia graduate is expected to join AS Monaco, marking a significant step away from the club that once heralded him as a future star.

The 22-year-old, who struggled for consistent playing time under new manager Hansi Flick, featured only intermittently last season.

Flick preferred attacking options such as Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres — a quartet that led Barcelona to a domestic treble.

Fabrizio Romano, a trusted source in European transfer news, confirmed that Barcelona and Monaco have reached an agreement for Fati to join the French side on loan.

Personal terms between the player and Monaco have also been agreed, paving the way for the move to be completed.

The deal includes a purchase option, with Barcelona having concluded all formalities related to a possible future sale.

This will be Fati’s second loan move, following his temporary stint at Brighton & Hove Albion during the second half of the 2022–23 season.

Despite early promise and being handed the iconic No. 10 shirt after Lionel Messi’s departure, injuries and inconsistent form have hindered his progress at Camp Nou.

Monaco, who secured third place in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, are preparing for Champions League football next season.
