Billel Omrani returns to CFR Cluj on a free transfer

Billel Omrani, the Algeria-France centre-forward, has joined CFR Cluj as a free agent, returning to the Romanian club at the age of 33.

The move brings Omrani back to the side where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career. He first joined CFR Cluj from Marseille in September 2016 and went on to win five Romanian league titles between 2017-18 and 2021-22. He also lifted the Romanian Super Cup twice with the club, in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Omrani left CFR Cluj for FCSB in September 2022, having made a significant contribution during his first spell. His record in the Romanian SuperLiga stands at 138 appearances, 30 goals and 25 assists, while he has also scored eight times in 15 Champions League qualifying appearances.

His most productive European qualifying campaign came in 2019-20, when he finished as the competition’s leading scorer with six goals. In 2022, he was named the best foreign player in Romania, adding individual recognition to his domestic honours.

The 1.88m forward is left-footed and has also played in France, Greece and Poland during a career that began in the youth system at Marseille. He made senior appearances for Marseille before spending the 2013-14 season on loan at AC Arles-Avignon.

Omrani’s more recent career has included spells with FCSB, Petrolul, Wisla Krakow, ACSM Poli Iasi, Anagennisi Karditsa and Concordia. He joined Concordia in February 2026 after a period without a club, then became a free agent again on 1 July.

His return to CFR Cluj gives the club an experienced centre-forward with an established record in Romanian football and a previous history of success in its colours. The player, who has a reported market value of €75,000, completed his move to CFR Cluj on 7 September 2026.
