Bilal Nadir: Morocco-French free agent midfielder linked with Hamburg move in Bundesliga switch

Bilal Nadir, the Morocco-French central midfielder currently without a club after leaving Marseille, is being strongly linked with a move to Bundesliga side Hamburg. Discussions over a deal are described as advanced, with the likelihood of a transfer currently rated at 75%, and the German club exploring the option of signing the 22-year-old on a free transfer.

Nadir became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following his departure from Marseille, where his market value was last estimated at €8m. That combination of age, valuation and freedom from contractual ties has alerted Hamburg, who are looking at ways to reinforce their midfield without committing to a major transfer fee.

Born in Nice and left-footed, Nadir operates primarily as a central midfielder and has already accumulated top-flight experience in France. He made 40 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille’s first team, contributing one goal and four assists, and also featured for the club in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Nadir moved from Nice’s youth setup to Marseille’s reserve side in 2021 before stepping up to the first team in 2023, progressing through France’s domestic pyramid with spells in National 1 and National 2. He has also appeared in the Coupe de France, scoring once and providing one assist.

With no contract currently in place and his previous deal at Marseille concluded this summer, Nadir is free to negotiate directly with interested clubs as Hamburg weigh up whether to convert their interest into a formal offer.
