Bilal Nadir has been named in Morocco’s senior squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, putting an end to speculation about a potential switch to Algeria.
The 21-year-old Olympique de Marseille midfielder, who has both Moroccan and Algerian heritage, has been increasingly involved at club level this season, making four starts since the beginning of 2025.
Path to the Moroccan National Team
Nadir’s international journey has been eventful. Initially developed in Nice’s academy, he represented France at the U16 and U19 levels before switching allegiance to Morocco, where he played for the U23 side in 2023.
However, in recent weeks, rumors suggested he was considering a second switch to represent Algeria.
The speculation gained traction due to his growing connection with Algerian international Ismael Bennacer, whose father is also Moroccan.
Nadir’s regular playing time alongside Bennacer since January fueled discussions about a potential move to the Algerian setup.
Confirmed for the Atlas Lions
Any uncertainty surrounding Nadir’s international future has now been settled. Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has included him in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Niger and Tanzania, reaffirming his commitment to the Atlas Lions.
This call-up represents a significant step in Nadir’s career, as he looks to establish himself as a key figure in Moroccan football.
