Upon returning to Lubumbashi, TP Mazembe announced that five of its players, including the three Zambians, were unavailable due to illnesses or injuries. Kalaba and Sinkala were reported to be suffering from malaria, while Sunzu had a knee injury related to a previous operation.
However, the FAZ expressed dissatisfaction with TP Mazembe, accusing the club of unprofessionalism and demanding the release of its players. Zambia is scheduled to play a friendly match against Brazil in China on October 15, just four days before TP Mazembe’s return match against Stade Malien.
Despite TP Mazembe’s medical reports, the FAZ insists on the immediate return of its players to Lusaka for assessment by the Chipolopolo medical staff. There are reports that the players had their passports confiscated by TP Mazembe’s management. The FAZ threatens to involve FIFA if Kalaba, Sinkala, and Sunzu are not released.
