Betway has been officially unveiled as the new sponsor of the South African Premiership, taking over from DStv who exited their contract deal a year earlier than planned.
PSL chair Irvin Khoza made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday, saying that a lucrative three-year deal is worth around USD 49 million.
The new partnership follows DStv’s termination of their five year agreement signed in September 2020 from revenue losses occasioned by a decline in subscriptions.
DStv replaced 13-year sponsor Absa when the TV company, which is also the PSL’s official broadcaster, signed a five-year deal.
This now leaves the door open for Betway to be announced as the new headline sponsor.
Khoza added that the 2024-25 season will begin on August 3, and they are to have fixtures published throughout Thursday.
It effectively ensures that the curious rumour just reparting around might not be anything apart from what it is – merely conjecture based on those who know a thing or two about such matters.
