AmaZulu produced a dramatic late turnaround to defeat TS Galaxy in Durban, while Durban City edged past Bay United to climb the Betway Premiership table as the 16th round continued on Sunday, 25 January.

At the King Zwelithini Stadium, AmaZulu came from behind twice before snatching victory deep into stoppage time to secure three points that lifted them into the top four.

TS Galaxy, who were seeking consistency after mixed recent results, left empty-handed after conceding in the final moments of an absorbing contest.

The first half offered little to separate the two sides, with both teams cancelling each other out and failing to create clear-cut chances.

The game came to life after the break when TS Galaxy broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, Letsoalo finding the net to put the visitors ahead.

AmaZulu responded swiftly and drew level nine minutes later through Ngwenya, injecting urgency into the home side’s play.

The visitors, however, were not done and regained the lead in the 81st minute when Zindoga struck, appearing to have put TS Galaxy on course for a vital away win.

The momentum shifted again late on. AmaZulu refused to settle for defeat and were rewarded in the 89th minute when Mbanjwa equalised for the second time.

As TS Galaxy struggled to regain control, the home side pressed forward, and their persistence paid off in added time.

Ngwenya struck again in the 90+2nd minute to complete the comeback and seal a memorable victory.

The result moves AmaZulu up to fourth place on 27 points, strengthening their position in the race near the top of the table.

TS Galaxy, meanwhile, slip to seventh after a match that saw them surrender two separate leads.

Earlier in the day, Durban City recorded a narrow but valuable 1-0 win over Bay United.

Mokwena scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage that they managed for the remainder of the contest.

Bay United attempted to alter the course of the match through several substitutions, but Durban City remained disciplined and saw out the victory.

The result lifts Durban City from eighth to sixth place on 25 points, while Bay United remain eighth with 23 points after failing to find a way back into the game.

As the Betway Premiership season reaches its midpoint, Sunday’s results underlined how fine the margins remain, with late drama and single goals continuing to shape the standings.
