Benin international Junior Olaïtan has completed a transfer to Turkish giants Beşiktaş, just six months after joining Göztepe, as the Istanbul club steps up its activity during the winter transfer window.
Beşiktaş confirmed the signing on their official social media channels, following earlier reports that negotiations between the two clubs had been concluded.
The move brings an abrupt end to Olaïtan’s short but impactful spell at Göztepe, where he quickly established himself as a regular in the Süper Lig.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder arrived at Göztepe last summer and wasted little time adapting to Turkish football.
He featured in 18 league matches, scoring twice and playing a central role in the team’s attacking play.
His performances were marked by composure on the ball, forward movement and an ability to read the game, qualities that drew attention from Beşiktaş’s recruitment staff.
Beşiktaş, currently fifth in the league standings, are seeking to reinforce their midfield as they aim to push back towards the top positions.
The Istanbul-based club reportedly paid a transfer fee of around €1.2m to secure Olaïtan’s services, underlining their belief in his potential.
For the Beninese international, the move represents a significant step forward in his career.
Joining one of Turkey’s most successful clubs will place him under greater scrutiny, particularly from supporters at Vodafone Park, where expectations are traditionally high.
Olaïtan is currently valued at €1.2m and earns an annual salary of €500,000, equivalent to approximately 325 million FCFA.
His challenge now will be to translate his promising form into consistent performances at a club competing for honours.
Göztepe, meanwhile, must turn their focus back to domestic matters.
They are preparing for their 21st league fixture against Konyaspor, a match that has attracted close interest from observers and bookmakers alike.
Odds released ahead of the game list a Göztepe win at 2.3, a draw at 2.9 and a Konyaspor victory at 2.7.
As the transfer window continues, Olaïtan’s move stands out as one of the more notable domestic deals, highlighting Beşiktaş’s intent and the midfielder’s rapid rise within Turkish football.
