Besiktas president Serdal Adalı has shared that the Turkish giants came very close to signing Ansu Fati from Barcelona during the January transfer window, but a sudden twist ended their hopes.
The Spanish side had eyes on some targets for a loan deal due to the club’s financial situation, but those moves fell through when Fati didn’t leave the club. At the time, reports claimed the young winger wanted to stay, but new details from Turkey suggest otherwise.
Speaking to Diario AS, Adalı disclosed that Besiktas had reached an agreement with Barcelona to bring Fati to Istanbul. The transfer was nearly complete, with the player already in talks with his father about the move. However, the club’s elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Twente stopped the deal in its tracks.
“Ansu Fati was on our agenda… But our European elimination ruined the signings,” Adalı explained, adding that Patrick Berg and Samuel Dahl were also targets.
According to Transfermarkt Ansu Fati’s current market value is 5 million euros.
