Burkina Faso captain Bertrand Traoré expressed his disappointment over missing the June matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Coach Brama Traoré decided not to select him for the crucial games.

Since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Bertrand Traoré has not featured for the Stallions.

Despite being available and active with his club, Villarreal, Traoré was absent from Burkina Faso’s June fixtures against Egypt and Sierra Leone.

The decision to exclude him was made by coach Brama Traoré.

“I am someone who loves playing football. When I’m not on the pitch, I miss football.

I missed not being able to play these two games,” Bertrand Traoré remarked during his Foundation’s charity event, as reported by Burkina24.

Despite his absence, Bertrand Traoré remains fully committed to the national team. “I have always been at the disposal of the national team, the supporters, the nation all the time.

When I am selected, I come to represent Burkina Faso; when I am not selected, when I am injured, I support the national team,” he concluded.

In June, Burkina Faso faced challenges in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

They were defeated 2-1 by Egypt and managed a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone.

These results have placed them third in Group A with five points.

The Stallions’ performance in June has highlighted the need for strategic adjustments and possibly the inclusion of key players like Bertrand Traoré in future matches.

The Villarreal winger’s experience and skill could prove invaluable as Burkina Faso aims to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
