Bernardo Silva outlines his multi-role plan for Real Madrid after debut
Bernardo Silva says his first appearance for Real Madrid represents the beginning of a new chapter, but the Portugal midfielder accepts he still has plenty to improve before the competitive season begins.
Silva made his debut in Real Madrid’s 2-1 friendly win over Hungarian side Ferencvarosi on Saturday evening. Following the victory, he said he was pleased to finally wear the club’s shirt and begin working towards full match fitness.
“I’m very happy and extremely satisfied to have played my first match. It is only the first week, and there are still many things I need to improve,” Silva told Real Madrid’s official channel.
The midfielder’s immediate priority is to build the rhythm required to make a strong start to the campaign. He said the squad’s current work is focused on reaching the physical and tactical level needed when competitive fixtures begin.
“The most important thing is to gain the rhythm we need to start the season well, and that is what we are working on,” he said.
Silva also explained that he wants to support Real Madrid in a number of different areas rather than restrict himself to one specific position or responsibility. Depending on the demands of the match, he may drop deeper to help with the build-up, push forward, lead the press or operate in the final third.
“I’m trying to give the team what it needs at the moment. Sometimes I’m more involved in building the play, sometimes I move forward, or I focus on pressing or being in the final third. I’m trying to help the team in several different areas, and I will be there to help in any way possible,” he added.
His comments underline his intention to adapt to the needs of the team as Real Madrid continue their preparations. Silva said returning from his holiday had been difficult, but he was pleased to have started playing and was now concentrating on developing an understanding with his new team-mates.
“The return from holiday was difficult, but I’m very happy that I have started playing. I’m trying to get to know my team-mates, because it is important to know their qualities and understand what they like during matches and in training,” he said.
Silva’s first outing also gives him an opportunity to become familiar with the patterns and demands of his new club. As preparations continue, he will be looking to improve his fitness, sharpen his decision-making and develop the relationships needed to contribute effectively across the pitch.
He ended by promising to use the remaining preparation period to ensure he is ready for the opening fixtures.
“I will prepare in the best possible way so that I can start the season well,” Silva said.
